APS Early Career Research LaunchPad Grant

ABOUT THIS GRANT

The APS Early Career Research LaunchPad Grant is designed to help emerging pain researchers secure their first independent funding. The scheme supports high‑quality pilot and translational studies that strengthen track records, accelerate independence, and build competitiveness for major external funding, while delivering meaningful impact in pain research and management aligned with the APS mission.

Who Should Apply

Australian Pain Society members based at an Australian university or medical research institute who are committed to pain research and not currently leading an NHMRC, ARC, MRFF, or HRC grant. Applications are welcomed from clinicians, researchers, and members of multidisciplinary teams.

How to Apply

Applications are submitted through the Australian Pain Society grants process and assessed by an independent expert panel. Applicants must demonstrate high research quality, clear career impact, and relevance to lived experience of pain.

Australian Pain Society PhD Travel Grants

ABOUT THIS GRANT

The APS PhD Travel Grant is designed to support PhD pain researchers to attend and contribute to the high-quality scientific research presented at the APS Annual Scientific Meeting. Along with an EOI for the grant, abstracts submitted for the ASM will be reviewed by the Scientific Program Committee. Grants of up to $500 will be awarded to successful recipients, who will present their research at the forthcoming ASM in either oral or poster format.

In addition to the general PhD travel grants, two dedicated PhD student Travel Grants will be awarded annually for members of the Special Interest Groups (SIGs). One shall be awarded to a Pain in Childhood SIG member, one to a Basic Pain Research SIG member.

Who Should Apply

Australian Pain Society members currently completing a PhD in Australia. Applicants must be Australian citizens, permanent residents or hold a valid student visa, be based in Australia, and live outside the metropolitan area of the conference city. Applicants for dedicated SIG grants must be current members of the relevant SIG.

How to Apply

To be considered for a Travel Grant:

an Expression of Interest for a Travel Grant must be indicated when the abstract is submitted; and
a Travel Grant Application form must be submitted to the APS Secretariat by 5pm on 30 November each year

Australian Pain Society Clinical Engagement Travel Grant

ABOUT THIS GRANT

The APS Clinical Engagement Travel Grant is designed to support first-time attendance at the ASM for practising clinicians working in Allied Health, Nursing or Pharmacy roles. Applicants must complete a short application which outlines their eligibility and the impact attending the ASM would have on their clinical practice. Applications will be reviewed by the Scientific Planning Committee and awarded based on merit.
Two dedicated Travel Grants will be awarded to members from identified priority groups: one for clinicians who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and one to clinicians working in rural or remote Australia.

Who Should Apply

Australian Pain Society members currently practising in an allied health or nursing role who have never previously attended the APS ASM.

How to Apply

Applications are submitted through the Australian Pain Society Secretariat and must be received by 5pm 30 November each year. Submissions must include responses to required questions as outlined in the application form. An organisational letter of support recognising current practice in allied health or nursing must also be submitted with your application.

Additional eligibility criteria for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander category:

Applicants must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander to be eligible for this grant category.

Additional eligibility criteria for Rural/Remote category:

Applicants must live and practice in a rural or remote zone (classified as being in the RRMA zone 3-7)

Professor Michael Cousins AO Travel Grant

ABOUT THIS GRANT

The Professor Michael Cousins AO AHP ASM Travel Grant is designed to encourage contribution to and participation in the ASM and is made possible through an allocation of APS funds. The grant includes complimentary ASM registration at the relevant early bird rate, and $500 toward ASM travel and accommodation expenses. This ASM Travel Grant will be awarded at the discretion of the APS Scholarship-Grants Selection Subcommittee.

Who Should Apply

Current Allied Health Practitioners (AHPs), Nurses, or Pharmacists who are Australian Pain Society members with APS membership for a total of five years (may be non-consecutive). The grant is for presentation of research conducted by AHPs, Nurses, or Pharmacists, thus applicants must have submitted an abstract for consideration by the Scientific Program Committee for the forthcoming ASM. The successful grant recipient shall present their research in oral or poster format at the ASM.

Applicants must be Australian citizens, permanent residents or hold a valid student visa, be based in Australia, and live outside the metropolitan area of the conference city.

How to Apply

An EOI for the Professor Michael Cousins AO Grant must be indicated when the abstract to the ASM is submitted for consideration of the Scientific Program Committee.

Applications for the grant are submitted through the Australian Pain Society Secretariat and must be received by 5pm 30 November each year. Submissions must include responses to required questions as outlined in the application form.
